朝5時、カッカバラのけたたましい笑い声で目が覚める。窓を開けっぱなしで寝てしまっていたらしい。最近は仕事が朝番のシフトで固定されているため、休みの日も自然と早起きになる。
今日は夕方にオンライン授業が一つあるだけなので、朝からカフェで作業する。
ずっと気になっていた黄色が基調のカフェに来た。ベアクロウというパンが、めーちゃくちゃ美味しい。1本目のYoutube(→リンク)を投稿してからバーンアウト気味だったので、燃料のアイスラテをぶち込んで脳みそを動かす。。毎日YouTubeを投稿している人はすごい。どうやってるんだ。
とりあえずニュースを読んだり、SNSを眺めながらモチベーションが湧いてくるのを待ったが、特に何もやる気が起きないまま大学の図書館に移動。今日から新学期のためキャンパスは人が多い。
基本的にメモ魔なのだが、手当たり次第その時手元にあるものにランダムにメモを取るので、とっ散らかっている。紙のメモもあれば、いろんなアプリに断片的に書いてあることもある。謎の数字だけ残されていて、そもそも何のメモか思い出せないものもある。「尾崎豊にバイクを盗まれた人」という何の脈絡もないメモが見つかったりもする。
その中でも最もとっ散らかっているのがNotionだ。大学院の論文のための文献リスト、ただの思いつき、日記、気になった記事、いろんなサイトのログインパスワードなど、ごちゃ混ぜになっているので、今日はこれの大整理を始めた。
宿題する前に部屋の掃除をしたくなる、あの衝動のデジタル版。で、結局昔読んでた漫画を読み直しちゃうやつね。昔の日記が面白くて読み返してしまう。barua.jpのネタになりそうなエピソードもたくさん出てきた。
夕方、図書館でそのままオンライン授業を受ける。今学期1回目なので、オリエンテーションとAssessmentの説明で終わり。次の授業までに少し予習をしておかないと。
ワライカワセミの英名。鳴き声が人間の笑い声そのものであることから、和名でワライカワセミと呼ばれる。Gold Coastでは、朝のアラーム代わりになっている。
熊の爪の形をしたペストリー。アーモンドクリームやシナモンが入っていることが多い。オーストラリアのカフェでは定番のメニューの一つ。
タスク管理、メモ、データベースなど、あらゆる情報を一箇所にまとめられるアプリ。自由度が高いぶん、使い方を決めないとすぐにカオスになる。私のNotionは、カオスになっている。
南オーストラリア州で毎年3月に開催される競馬のレース。1864年から続く歴史ある大会で、南オーストラリア州では公式の祝日に指定されている。メルボルンカップも同様に、ビクトリア州の祝日だ。
オーストラリアは連邦国家で、各州がそれぞれ独自の祝日を持つ。全国共通の祝日もあるが、Adelaide Cupのように特定の州だけの祝日も多い。隣の州に住んでいても、祝日の数や日付が違う。
オーストラリアの大学院では、試験よりもエッセイや口頭発表、グループワークなどで成績がつくことが多い。学期の最初にAssessmentの概要が説明される。
My shifts are locked into mornings, so even on days off, I wake up early without thinking about it.
Today I only have one online class in the evening, so I headed to a café in the morning to get some work done. Finally made it to the yellow café I’d been curious about for a while. The bear claw pastry was incredible. Since posting my first YouTube video (→ link), I’ve been a bit burnt out, so I ordered an iced latte, poured it into my brain, and tried to get things moving. People who post on YouTube every day are something else. How do they do it?
I scrolled through news and social media, waiting for some motivation to show up — it didn’t — then moved to the university library. The new semester starts today, so the campus is busy.
I take notes constantly, but on whatever happens to be in front of me at the time, so everything is scattered everywhere. Some on paper, some in fragments across various apps. Sometimes I find a note that’s just a mysterious number with no context, and I have no idea what it was for.
The worst one is Notion. Academic references for my thesis, random thoughts, diary entries, articles I meant to read, and login passwords for various sites — all mixed together. So today I started a full reorganisation.
It’s the digital version of wanting to clean your room before doing homework. And then ending up re-reading manga you used to love. I got distracted by old diary entries and couldn’t stop. A lot of good material for barua.jp in there.
In the evening, I took the online class from the library. First session of the semester, so it was mostly orientation and an overview of assessments. I should do a bit of reading before the next one.
